FEBRUARY'S NOTES FROM THE CHAIRMAN
Happy Valentine's Day!
February is coming in with a temperature of 62 degrees. Will the Groundhog see his shadow? He will probably need suntan lotion the way the weather is going. And then long-johns by Super Bowl Sunday!
Our membership ranks are slowing growing. We now have 56 members (renewals and new) for 2012. Please continue to encourage your friends to join us. Remember that to be elegible for the monthly raffle, one needs to be a 2012 member. The winner for the January raffle is Kirsten Hubbard, who won two tickets to the upcoming OMF Spaghetti Dinner, Auction, and Dance to be held on March 11th at the Cascade American Legion. The next drawing will be held at our February Board of Director's Meeting.
The Fort Ritchie Community Center will be holding a Last Chance Bonanza on February 25th at the Cascade American Legion. The One Mountain Foundation is a table sponsor for the event. Come out and support your community and community center.
OMF does not have any events scheduled for this month. But please consider coming to the OMF Events Committee meeting on Monday, February 13th at 7:00 p.m. at the Fort Ritchie Community Center. Give the committee your ideas for future events and activities. Then be a part of planning those events and activities. It is through these activities that we raise funds to provide our support to the community. Then the OMF Board of Directors will meet on Monday February 27rd at 7:00 p.m. at the Fort Ritchie Community Center. Everyone is welcome to attend; the meeting is open to the public.
Check out our planned events for 2012 at the new "2012 OMF Events" tab on the web site. The Board has some additional ideas, but short on resources to implement at the moment. Please consider joining in those planning sessions at one of the two meetings mentioned above.
February 12th will be the 10th Anniversary of the forming of the One Mountain Foundation and the initial recognition by the Internal Revenue Service for the Foundation as a Public Charity. The Foundation has come a long way in its service to the community since 2002, to include: establishing a need for a community center for fitness and recreational activities; hosting events to raise awareness and resources for the Help Hotline (community food bank), Hope Alive, and the Fort Ritchie Community Center; hosting Mountaintop Heritage Days to allow (non-profit) community churches, fire departments, and the Sons of the American Legion to raise funds for their respective needs; bring to light that a Civil War battle occurred at Monterey Pass; and hosting fun community focused activities like the Fall Harvest Fest with the community pastors, a Community Tree Lighting and Fun with Santa, and premiers of documentary films focused on our community's history. Join me in wishing the Foundation a continued and successful long life.
Also, the details on the One Mountain Foundation Scholarship Program is on that tab on the web site. Please check it out. And encourage any senior attending one of our local high schools to apply. The application link is also on that page.
For those who have not renewed their membership, please consider doing so; for those who have renewed, thank you. I hope to see you at our meetings and activities. Bill Carter
