UPCOMING EVENTS

July 31, 2010  -  Mountaintop Community Churches Community

Picnic in Appreciation of the Mountaintop

                           Heritage Days Volunteers

The pastors of seven mountaintop churches will host a community wide picnic on July 31, 2010 from 12:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Fort Ritchie Community Center in Cascade, Maryland.  The purpose of the picnic is to thank the 100-plus community volunteers who provided an excessive number of hours during the recent 5th Annual Mountaintop Heritage Days seeing to food stands and all the various support required to host the thousands of people who attended the event.  Additionally, they would like to show their appreciation for those who attended the first community worship service on June 27th.  The offering from that worship service will be divided and presented at 12:45 p.m. to the Help Hotline, a food bank serving the mountaintop communities, and Hope Alive, a community ministry that provides safe shelter for women and their children.

The pastors who participated in the recent Community Worship Service which was a part of Mountaintop Heritage Days were very pleased with the response of the members of our community and Churches to that service.  That experience brought people together and provided an opportunity for people to interact and get to know one another.  As pastors, we desire to see an even greater sense of community and connectedness among the people who live here on the mountaintop.  We intend to have more events in the future to give us opportunity to interact with our friends and neighbors.

The pastors and churches involved are Pastor Arietta Grimmet, “Life Changing Ministries” of the Church of God of Prophecy, Sabillasville, MD; Pastor Richard Daughtridge, Jacob’s Church, Blue Ridge Summit, PA; Pastor Sandy Price, St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ, Cascade, MD; Pastor Janet Comings, St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and St. John’s United Church of Christ, Sabillasville, MD; Pastor Warren Rice, Living Word Church, Blue Ridge Summit, PA; Pastor Gary Shew, Pen Mar United Brethren in Christ Church, Pen Mar,  MD; and Pastor Mark Hosler, Germantown Church of God, Cascade, MD.

The Fort Ritchie Community Center, the One Mountain Foundation, and the Sons of the American Legion Post #239 are assisting in support of the indoor picnic.

Barefoot in the Park is another Neil Simon hit comedy that The New York Times called "A bubbling, rib-tickling comedy" and the New York Daily News said that "Critic weeps joyfully...I don't think anybody stopped laughing while the curtain was up."  This is the third season of having the Blue Ridge Theater Guild back home on the Cascade/Blue Ridge Summit mountaintop.  The Guild is a talented and award winning local theater production company with this production directed by Cathy Snesrud of Hagerstown, MD.

The fall dinner theater is an important fund-raiser for the One Mountain Foundation.  The Blue Ridge Fire and Rescue Squad donate the use of the building and Alice and her committee, with the help of the Blue Ridge Garden Club, turn the fire hall into a beautiful theater for the weekend.  It's a fun filled evening with all proceeds going to fund future One Mountain Foundation community focused activities and advance expenses for the 6th Annual Mountaintop Heritage Days to be held June 25th and 26th, 2011in Blue Ridge Summit, Pennsylvania and Cascade, Maryland.
